It took 18 months and the coordinated efforts of 175 police officers to make what investigators are calling one of the largest seizures of methamphetamine (crystal meth) in Ontario’s history.
Early Wednesday morning, officers executed twenty-three search warrants from across the province, including the city of Hamilton and the regions of Halton and Peel.
With the help of the RCMP and the Canadian Border Services Agency, more than $3 million in crystal meth and $1 million in anabolic steroids were seized by authorities.
The operation resulted in at least 21 arrests from across the province, including the arrest of an officer with Hamilton police who allegedly leaked information to the main target of the investigation, said Chief Glenn De Caire.
Also included in the seizures were $400,000 in homes and vehicles and $140,000 in cash, police said.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and further seizures are expected along with additional arrests.
