Comments Off on State police shoot and kill man in Wayne Township

A man was shot and killed by state police early Wednesday morning when they visited a Wayne Township home to investigate reports of a methamphetamine lab.

Trooper Bernard Walasavage of the Schuylkill Haven station said troopers were met by a man brandishing a long gun and threatening them when they arrived at the 6 Blue Mountain Heights home about 6:05 a.m.

Walasavage said the man was shot by troopers, after which a tactical medic who accompanies the state police Emergency Response Team was called to provide medical aid.

The man, however, died from his injuries at the scene, troopers said.

The victim has not been identified.

Police had received information from various sources about a possible meth lab. The investigation culminated with the serving of the search warrant just after 6 a.m.

Walasavage said that due to the potential for high-risk violence the emergency response team was contacted.

He said that after announcing their identities and knocking on the door, members of the team entered the home and were met by the armed man.

Inside the home Walasavage said troopers found a working methamphetamine lab and contacted the state police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team to assisting in safely dismantling the lab and collecting items for evidence.
