Comments Off on Children Eat Meth, Thinking It was Candy; Mother Arrested

LONGVIEW, Texas — A woman has been arrested after her children told police they tried methamphetamine drugs because they thought it was candy.

Amanda Gail Walker, 30, of Hallsville was arrested after a fight with a relative at a hotel on Loop 281 in Longview, police said.

Officers investigating that incident said Walker’s 9-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter told them they saw something they thought was candy, so they tasted it. Police confiscated a bag believed to contain methamphetamine.

Police said the children were taken to a hospital, where one tested positive for methamphetamine.

Walker was booked into the Gregg County Jail on charges of assault causing bodily injury, drug possession and criminal child negligence. Bond was set at $6,000.

The assault charge applies to the fight with a female relative, police said.
