Comments Off on Man who made meth in Ocala National Forest gets 10 years

OCALA — A man who made a meth lab in the Ocala National Forest has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.

Robert Simmons, 53, who had previous convictions in Lake and Marion counties for possessing methamphetamine, was arrested last year at a forest campsite where authorities recorded him describing his recipe.

Law enforcement officers also seized his production materials.

U.S. District Judge John Antoon II sentenced Simmons on Friday to 10 years in prison for manufacturing the illegal drug and for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it. His 10-year sentence reflects his prior drug convictions and the quantity of the drug discovered at the primitive campsite where he was living.
