BEREA — Two men were arrested early Saturday morning when police discovered an active methamphetamine lab in the garage of a Berea home.

This is the second meth lab found in Berea in two days.

After receiving a tip, Madison Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Central Kentucky Area Drug Task Force went to the Abney Drive home, located in the Red Lick area of the county, around 12:30 a.m. to investigate.

A search of the garage “revealed a meth lab inside a cooler,” said Deputy Willard Reardon of the sheriff’s department.

Officers also found a large supply of chemicals and equipment used to manufacture the drug, Reardon said in a press release.

One of the residents of the home, Brandon Turner, 21, was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine. A visitor, Kenneth Leach of Florida, 38, also was arrested. He is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, but he also had outstanding warrants for second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, two counts of contempt of court and theft by unlawful taking.

The two suspects were decontaminated by the Berea Fire Department and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center about 6 a.m. Saturday.
