Comments Off on Feds charge couple with pimping out teens and giving them Meth in San Jose, South San Francisco hotels

Sacramento couple faces federal charges of using money, drugs and violence to keep control of four teenage prostitutes who they forced to work out of hotels in South San Francisco and San Jose.

Mike and Helen Singh began by offering the girls a 50 percent share of the $100 per hour men paid for sex with them as well as food, shelter and a supply of drugs including methamphetamine, according to a federal court affidavit filed by the FBI. But the girls received none of the cash, were forced to stay and some were beaten.

One of the girls was a 16-year-old runaway with a criminal record. Another had her mother’s permission to be with the Singhs, though the parent told police she had no idea her daughter was a prostitute. A third teen, who was 18, allegedly had her jaw broken by Mike Singh for not managing the other girls well.

According to court records, Mike Singh is charged with sex trafficking of children by force, and his wife Helen is accused of conspiring to help him.

He was ordered held without bail.

The suspected ring was uncovered by chance Aug. 20 after police got reports of a possible runaway girl at the TraveLodge on Airport Boulevard in South San Francisco.

After interviews with Mike Singh and the girls, police searched a room where they found $220 in cash stuffed into a cigarette pack, several used condoms in a trash can, “an usually large amount of lingerie,” and an overwhelming scent of perfume.

Singh said the teens were his stepdaughters, but the 16-year-old runaway eventually told officers she was being held against her will.

Though the girl had been involved in prostitution before meeting the couple, she wanted to leave and was threatened by Mike Singh, according to court records. She had also performed sex acts for money at the Vagabond Inn in San Jose.

Based on cell phones and a laptop computer seized at the South San Francisco hotel, police believe the couple used the website myredbook.com to advertise the girls.

Police looked up the ad and found pictures of some of the teens posing in lingerie. The phone number on the posting also led back to a cell phone found with the couple.
