Comments Off on St. Augustine meth house linked to murder-suicide

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A St. Johns County man is behind bars after deputies uncovered a large meth lab at a home in the St. Augustine South neighborhood where he was believed to be staying.
The man, 35-year-old Chad Dewayne Platt was arrested for violating his probation after his parole officer visited the home at 207 Queen Road Tuesday and found evidence of methamphetamines.
Numerous deputies, the parole officer, Platt and a female inside the home had to be decontaminated.
Action News found this is the same home where a murder-suicide took place 19 months ago. Although police have yet to reveal her identity, the female questioned in the meth bust is believed to have also been living in the home when 47-year-old Francisco Gutierrez shot and killed 71-year-old Harry Brano in the driveway before shooting himself inside the home on September 7, 2010.
Neighbors say since that time they have been suspicious of activity in and around the home.
“There’s just been people in and out of that house all the time,” said neighbor Dale Pickett, “and you would never see any cars over there for more than 15 minutes at a time.”
Police say the woman was treated at the hospital, but does not face any charges at this time. The investigation continues, however, and more charges could be filed in coming days.
