TEMECULA, Calif. — Border Patrol agents have found 39 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in a car at a Southern California highway checkpoint.

The 23-year-old driver, whose name is being withheld, and the meth were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The man’s 1996 Subaru Outback was stopped Tuesday morning at an Interstate 15 checkpoint south of Temecula in Riverside County.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise ( ) says agents ordered the driver to pull into a secondary inspection area where a drug-sniffing dog detected meth in two compartments under the driver and passenger seats.
