Nine more charged in meth case

Two Grand Rapids men suspected of manufacturing methamphetamine are facing new charges and nine more individuals have also been charged in connection with the case.

Brandon James Burthwick, 22, and Ross Edward Ball, 27, have each been charged with felony aiding and abetting methamphetamine manufacture. Both were previously charged in April with felony first degree conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and felony aiding and abetting attempted methamphetamine manufacture. 

Burthwick and Ball were charged after a search warrant was executed on April 4 at a residence in the 3800 block of River Road in Grand Rapids. Officers from the Grand Rapids Police Department and Itasca County Sheriff’s Office seized evidence associated with meth manufacturing and “precursors necessary to manufacture meth.”

New charges in connection with the case have been filed on Monday against the following individuals:

Andrew John Burt, 21, Grand Rapids has been charged with one count of aiding and abetting methamphetamine manufacture, one count of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, one count of aiding and abetting attempted methamphetamine manufacture and conspiracy to commit controlled substance crime in the fourth degree, all felonies.

Steven Joseph Burt, 22, Grand Rapids has been charged with one count of aiding and abetting methamphetamine manufacture, one count of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and one count of aiding and abetting attempted methamphetamine manufacture, all felonies.

Cory Ray Richards, 20, Grand Rapids has been charged with one count of aiding and abetting methamphetamine manufacture, one count of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and one count of aiding and abetting attempted methamphetamine manufacture, all felonies.

Skyler Dawn Rhodes, 21, Grand Rapids has been charged with one count of aiding and abetting methamphetamine manufacture, one count of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and one count of aiding and abetting attempted methamphetamine manufacture, all felonies.

Brandi Lee Rhodes, 19, Grand Rapids has been charged with one count of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and one count of aiding and abetting attempted methamphetamine manufacture, both felonies.

Christopher John Moss, 19, Grand Rapids has been charged with one count of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and one count of aiding and abetting attempted methamphetamine manufacture, both felonies.

Daniel Jeffrey Hawkinson, 18, Grand Rapids has been charged with one count of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and one count of aiding and abetting attempted methamphetamine manufacture, both felonies.

Jacquelyn Marie Lueck, 19, Grand Rapids has been charged with has been charged with one felony count of aiding and abetting attempted methamphetamine manufacture.

Anton Stephon Metzenhuber, 38, Grand Rapids, has been charged with one count of first degree conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and one count of aiding and abetting attempted methamphetamine manufacture, both felonies.

According to the criminal complaint, investigation revealed the nine charged allegedly assisted in manufacturing meth by providing precursors – such as Sudafed – to Burthwick and Ball. Some were given meth in exchange for their assistance while a couple received nothing in return. Some of the meth that was manufactured was sold.

The criminal complaint also stated that Ball had manufactured meth approximately 18 times in the past year and half and had instructed Burthwick and his friends how to manufacture meth.

Both Burthwick and Ball have court dates set for 8:30 a.m. on June 19 before Judge Lois Lang in Itasca County District Court. According to a statement from Itasca County Attorney Jack Muhar, court dates have not yet been set for the nine individuals newly-charged in the case.
