Afton, Mich. — Three Afton residents were being held at the Cheboygan County Jail Thursday after a search warrant executed at two homes produced an active methamphetamine lab, cash, marijuana and weapons. The Straits Area Narcotics Enforcement Team, commonly known as SANE, conducted the raid with the assistance of Michigan State Police, the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, Tuscarora Township Police Department and the 7th District Methamphetamine Response Team. A Michigan State Police K-9 unit was also called in for support. Arrested on Wednesday were John Charles Wilson III, 33, on 20 charges in connection with possession and manufacturing of methamphetamine and felony firearm. Rebbecca Ashley Nichols-Zimmer, a 23-year-old Indian River woman, was booked on eight counts associated with Wilson’s charges. Eric Jason Masson, 30, was held on 15 charges in connection with his affiliation with Wilson and Nichols-Zimmer. At the Masson residence, police seized two long guns and evidence related to the manufacturing of methamphetamine. A disposal company was contacted for the clean-up of the methamphetamine lab. At their arraignments Thursday, cash bonds were set at $500,000 for Wilson, $100,000 for Nichols-Zimmer and $300,000 for Masson. Preliminary examinations will be set for Wednesday.
