Winter Haven police said they have arrested seven people who were squatting in a home and were stealing electricity.

Police said the owner of the house had died.

The people – five from Winter Haven and two from St. Petersburg – were arrested Monday when a warrant on narcotics charges was served.

Officers entered the home at 510 Ave. L. SE. and found narcotics including methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia hidden in various locations throughout the home.

Once the occupants were in custody, officers contacted Tampa Electric after observing the meter appeared to have been tampered with. TECO verified the tampering and cut service to the home.

The suspects and their charges:

  • Kevin Meyers, 47, 4595 Chancellor St., St. Petersburg; possession of suspended driver’s license, driving while license revoked.

Lamont Kelly, 39, 531 Highland St. N., St Petersburg; possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and also had an active warrant for arrest.

Phillip Ashby, 22, 109 Harrison Road, Winter Haven; violation of probation.

Elliot Jose Mora-Iglesias, 26, 510 Ave. L SE., Winter Haven; possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, utilizing dwelling for narcotics use and sale.

Amanda Akins, 28, 510 Ave. L SE., Winter Haven; possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia.

Candace White, 28, 510 Ave. L, SE., Winter Haven; possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of paraphernalia, utilizing dwelling for narcotics use and sale.

Elizabeth Hopkins, 48, 510 Ave. L, SE., Winter Haven; possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, utilizing dwelling for narcotics use and sale

Hopkins was not at home when the warrant being served, but when she returned she called police to complain about her house being in disarray. She was immediately taken into custody.

The suspects were all taken to Polk County jail.
