A registered sex offender who appeared to be high on methamphetamine jumped onto a woman’s car as she drove through southeast Fresno Tuesday night.

The 50-year-old man was arrested by police near Kings Canyon Road and Peach Avenue, Sgt. Rick de Jong said.

The woman told officers her terrifying ordeal began about 9 p.m. as she was leaving Community Regional Medical Center. She said the man approached her and asked for a ride. When she said no and tried to drive away, the man jumped onto the back of her car and held on.

The woman said she feared for her life life but didn’t want to make any sudden swerves to throw the man off and injure him or another motorist. Police intercepted the vehicle as the man climbed onto the hood at a red light.

De Jong said the man, who was wearing an ankle monitor, has an extensive criminal history that includes assaults on police. He was booked for parole violations and being under the influence.
