Comments Off on 3 arrested for Meth and other charges after chase in St. Lucie County

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — A high-speed pursuit that started on Interstate 95 ended near Selvitz and Glades Cut-Off roads with the recovery of more than a quarter pound of methamphetamine and other drugs and three arrests, according to recently released affidavits.

The case began about 10:35 p.m. Sunday when a St. Lucie County Sheriff’s deputy measured the speed of a Ford Mustang on northbound I-95 at 91 mph. The deputy got behind the Mustang just north of St. Lucie West Boulevard.

The Mustang driver, later identified as Jeremy Diego Bustamonte, 22, of Orlando, accelerated after the deputy turned on his lights. The deputy turned on his siren and was traveling about 115 mph while pursuing the Mustang.

The Mustang exited onto Midway Road, heading east at speeds greater than 100 mph. The vehicle continued north onto Glades Cut-Off Road at speeds greater than 115 mph. Near Selvitz Road, the vehicle started to slow before the deputy began to initiate a special driving technique designed to get a fleeing vehicle to turn sideways and stop.

Bustamonte and passengers identified as Luis Samuel Pardo, 32, and 25-year-old Adrian Canal were apprehended. Pardo and Canal have listed addresses in Orlando.

In a bag in the Mustang, investigators found items including two bags of a powdery substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. The bags weighed more than 4 ounces in total.

A loaded .22 caliber revolver and another firearm were recovered.

Investigators found 10 alprazolam pills in Canal’s pocket.

Pardo told investigators he’d been in Miami for the week celebrating his birthday, saying Bustamonte was taking him back to Orlando. Pardo said Bustamonte made several trips between Orlando and Miami in that time period but said he didn’t know about the drugs or at least one of the firearms.

Canal said he took a bus to Miami to celebrate with Pardo for a few days. He said he saw the drugs in Bustamonte’s possession in a hotel where they stayed.

Bustamonte, who had a burglary warrant out of Orange County, declined to speak with investigators.

Bustamonte was arrested on charges including flee and elude high speed, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and resisting arrest without violence. He also was issued traffic citations.

Canal was arrested on charges including possession of a controlled substance without prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a driver’s license.

Pardo was arrested on a resisting arrest without violence charge.
