A Kilpatrick man was arrested Monday after law enforcement officers spotted him with several items used to make methamphetamine and found meth in his possession, according to a news release from DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris.

Joey Dwayne Carnell, 30, is charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Harris said DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies and an officer of the Geraldine Police Department went to the south end of the county Monday to serve a warrant on County Road 360 in the Whiton community.

While attempting to serve the warrant, they spotted Carnell in a building adjacent to the residence and, in open view, several items typically used in making methamphetamine.

Two small bags of a white, powdery substance, which later field-tested positive as meth, were found in Carnell’s possession, Harris said in the release.

Carnell is in the DeKalb County Detention Center awaiting bond.
