TUCSON – Last Thursday, Tucson Police raided a midtown home to find cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine and assorted pills, as well as 96 firearms. Two people were arrested and two children were inside the home at the time of the raid.



On August 30, officers were conducting surveillance on a home located in the 4800 block of East 23rd Street, near 22nd St. and Swan Rd., according to a news release from Tucson Police. During the investigation, information was received that drugs were being sold from the home, and that there were many weapons inside.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home, and TPD SWAT officers helped the serve the search warrant, the release stated. Detectives found 26 grams of cocaine, one gram of methamphetamine, one pound of marijuana, five grams of “hashish,” and 660 assorted pills, including oxycodone, oxycontin, hyrocodone, alprazolam and cyclobenzaprine, inside the home.

Detectives also found 96 firearms in the home, including handguns, shotguns, and assault rifles, as well as thousands of rounds of ammunition. ATF agents responded to assist with the investigation.

Both residents found inside the home were arrested: 50-year-old Douglas Ray Atwood and 36-year-old Deborah Spencer, according to the release. Their two children, ages 16 and 9, were also found inside the home. Child Protective Services responded to assist.

According to TPD, Atwood was charged with: 2 counts of Unlawful Possession of a Narcotic Drug for Sale, 1 count of Unlawful Possession of a Dangerous Drug, 1 count of Unlawful Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia, 1 count of Possession of a Firearm during a Drug Offense, 1 count of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and 2 counts of Child Abuse.

Spencer was charged with 2 counts of Unlawful Possession of a Narcotic Drug for Sale and 1 count of Unlawful Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.

Both were booked into the Pima County Jail, and further charges are pending at this time.
