CHICO — A woman high on methamphetamine allegedly pinned a man between his truck and a tree early this morning at the Park and Ride after stealing his vehicle.

The man, Dennis German, sustained major injuries, according to a Chico Police Department press release.

The woman, Mayra Morales, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence causing injuries, hit and run causing injuries, and grand theft auto, police reported.

About 5:20 a.m. today, German drove into the Park and Ride at 800 Fir St. and noticed a young woman acting strange, possibly intoxicated, police reported. He left his truck running and got out to see if he could help.

Morales then allegedly ran past German and jumped into his truck. She backed into a tree and then allegedly drove forward, crushing German’s pelvic region between the truck and another tree. The woman then drove away, hitting a parked car and several cement K rails on northbound Highway 99.

A witness saw the truck hitting the rails and called California Highway Patrol to report a possible drunken driver, police reported. The truck became disabled from damage and the witness stopped to check on the driver. Morales allegedly tried to steal the man’s car, but he kept his keys and detained her until police arrived.

German reportedly positively identified Morales as the suspect, according to police.

Investigators determined that Morales was under the influence of methamphetamine.
