VILLAGE OF STEUBEN, Wis. – The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a woman accused of making methamphetamine in a tent.

Burns then provided drug paraphernalia from her tent, according to sheriff’s officials.

Investigators discovered there was a warrant for Burns’ arrest through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

Burns replied by saying, “I’m not going to jail,” jumped into the Kickapoo River and began swimming downstream, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities said Burns was seen climbing out of the river approximately 300 yards away, at which time a search team was deployed.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department and Prairie du Chien Police K-9 units located Burns. She was taken into custody without incident, authorities said.

Officers said they located more drug paraphernalia and a substantial amount of methamphetamine inside Burns’ tent.

Burns faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing an officer.
