Border Patrol agents seized two pounds of methamphetamine Monday, Sept. 10, from a car at the checkpoint on Interstate 15 south of Temecula, authorities said.

Agents stopped a 2006 Nissan Altima at the checkpoint about 1:40 p.m. and decide to scrutinize the vehicle further because the 22-year-old driver and his passenger seemed nervous, a Border Patrol news release said. With the help of a drug-sniffing dog, agents found a hidden compartment containing methamphetamine in the dashboard, Border Patrol officials said.

The driver, his passenger, and the drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the release said. The names of the driver and passenger were not disclosed. Border Patrol officials said the driver is a U.S. citizen.
