Comments Off on Methamphetamine use on the rise in Klamath County

Klamath County is seeing a resurgence of methamphetamine use among kids and adults, and law enforcement agencies need to tackle the problem before it gets any bigger, said Klamath County Juvenile Department Director Dan Golden and Joseph Allred, a certified alcohol and drug counselor at BestCare Treatment Services of Klamath Falls.

“The Juvenile Department is like a canary in the coal mine,” Golden said. “This is where the trends begin to emerge because if we can’t get to them while they’re in here then they often go on to a lifetime of crime and drug use.”

“It’s really just exploded in the past year here in Klamath County,” he said.

Golden said the amount of kids they’ve had brought in to the detention center high or strung out on methamphetamine has been on the rise for about the last three years.
