A Pine Ridge woman is facing up to 20 years in prison after she was arrested with 40 pounds of methamphetamine in her possession, according to the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office.

Victoria Lee Running Hawk, 30, was indicted Wednesday by a Pennington County grand jury on one count of possessing methamphetamine and an additional count of possessing and intending to distribute the controlled substance, the attorney general’s office announced.

Running Hawk was stopped by the South Dakota Highway Patrol for speeding while traveling east on Interstate 90 at about mile marker 70 in Pennington County, according to a news release.

Attorney general spokeswoman Sara Rabern said the bust is one of the state’s largest, but she couldn’t confirm if it is the largest.

“It’s a large amount of meth,” she said.

The street value of that much meth is about $2.7 million, calculated at $150 a gram, Rabern said.

Possession of a controlled substance is a class 4 felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Possession with intent to distribute is a class 4 felony punishable by a maximum sentence of 10 years and a $20,000 fine, with a mandatory minimum of one year imprisonment upon conviction.
