The 32-year-old man said he had no idea how the methamphetamine ended up near his vehicle and in his gas tank cover

A 32-year-old Lilburn man made an unusual discovery while cleaning his car behind a Sardis Church Road business in the Hamilton Mill area of Buford.

The man, an employee of the business, found white latex gloves, pieces of balloon and several blue baggies containing a substance that later field tested positive for methamphetamine.

The man told Gwinnett County Police he noticed the gloves when he arrived at work at 6:30 a.m. but did not think anything of it. Later, when he was cleaning his vehicle, he realized what the other items were and called authorities.

Police searched the parking lot, but did not locate any other drugs. However, while looking at the cars in the lot, an officer noticed a blue baggie containing suspected methamphetamine sticking out of a gas tank cover. The vehicle belonged to the employee who called police.

The man saw police remove the drugs from his car and walked over to explain that he did not do drugs and the drugs did not belong to him. A search of the man and his vehicle revealed no evidence of drug use.

In the incident report, the officer noted the baggy appeared to have been placed in the man’s vehicle. No surveillance footage was available for the area in which the drugs were found.

With no evidence, leads or suspects, the case was administratively closed. The investigating officer advised the owner of the business to install additional security cameras.
