Drug agents searching a home near DeLand found a 1-month-old baby near an open jar that contained methamphetamine oil, Sheriff’s Office reports show.
As a result, Kirstie S. Allen, 20, and Ralph Kennedy Richardson, 34, both of Salt Springs, were each charged with child neglect. Richardson was also charged with two counts of possession of a prescription drug while Allen was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Richardson told investigators he had only been staying at the house for five days, arrest reports state.
Officers with the West Volusia Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at the 1509 West Parkway house near DeLand on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
They found Shane Doyle Williams, 44, of DeLand, at the home. Williams was charged with possession of methamphetamine after agents found a glass jar with one gram of methamphetamine oil, the reports said.
Ralph Kennedy Richardson, 34, of Salt Springs, is charged with child neglect.
Law enforcement officers also found epsom salts, empty Sudafed boxes, drain cleaner, Coleman fuel and cold pack inside the house, all materials used to make methamphetamine, investigators said.
On arriving at the home, officers saw Ricahrdson standing outside the home apparently counting something in his hands. Richardson ran inside and closed the door. When deputies pushed open the door and entered they saw several pills fall from Richardson’s hand.
Richardson told investigators he was holding the pills for Williams because he didn’t want Williams to overdose, the reports said.
The pills Richardson had were methadone and oxycodone, investigators said.
As drug agents searched the house they discovered that next to the open jar of methamphetamine oil, a baby was lying on a bed.
Allen admitted she had been shooting methamphetamine with needles for two weeks, the report said. As investigators packed a diaper bag for the baby, they found two used syringes with methamphetamine residue in a side pocket with the baby’s pacifier.
Also arrested in the raid was Albert Grayson, 42, of Daytona Beach, who was seen leaving the house. He was stopped and charged with habitually driving with a suspended license.
Another woman, Nicole Floyd, 21, of DeLand, was also stopped after she was seen leaving the house and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a silver spoon was found in her bra. The spoon had oxycodone residue on it, investigators said.
