MURRIETA, Calif. — Border Patrol agents seized nearly $850,000 in liquid methamphetamine disguised as shampoo, soap and antifreeze early Monday morning and arrested a man and a teenager at the Interstate 15 checkpoint.

Agents at the checkpoint near Murrieta just north of the San Diego County border stopped a 2002 GMC envoy about 3 a.m. and searched it after noticing the occupants’ nervous behavior, Border Patrol Agent Jerry Conlin said. The narcotic was found inside four shampoo bottles and two antifreeze containers in the rear cargo area of the vehicle, and also inside the windshield washer reservoirs, Conlin said.

The 23-year-old driver and his 16-year-old male passenger, both U.S. citizens, were arrested. The drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The liquid meth weighed a little more that 42 pounds and had a street value of $844,400, Conlin said.
