Comments Off on SVPD seizes methamphetamine, cash and gun in narcotics arrest

Police say they arrested a convicted felon last week, seizing a large amount of narcotics and cash as well as a loaded gun.

According to the Simi Valley Police Department, on Oct. 11 Special Enforcement Section officers stopped a vehicle seen leaving a residence known for narcotics activity.

The passenger in the vehicle was 41-year-old Paradise resident Joseph Romagnano. Officers say they learned Romagnano was on parole as a result of being released early under the state of California’s Realignment Program. His previous criminal offense involved the sale of dangerous drugs.

Based on Romagnano’s parole terms, officers searched his backpack and found a pound of methamphetamine, a loaded handgun and about $4,400 in cash, which law enforcement believes was obtained through drug sales, offi cers said.

Romagnano was arrested and booked into Ventura County Main Jail on charges of possession of illegal narcotics for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, possession of illegal narcotics while in possession of a firearm and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

At press time, Romagnano was still in custody, being held on $500,000 bail. He appeared in court Oct. 15 and entered a plea of not guilty on all counts and denied all priors and special allegations against him.

He is due back in court Oct. 24.

After his arrest, Romagnano was found to be in possession of a key from a hotel room he had rented in the San Fernando Valley, police said. Officers say they did a probation search of the location and found Romagnano’s girlfriend, Crystal Colclough, cleaning contraband from the room.

Colclough, 27, of Woodland Hills was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, an ounce of methamphetamine, according to police.

The Special Enforcement Section encourages citizens to report drug-related activity.
