Californian woman Jennifer Mills-Winkler was arrested by Australian Federal Police at Brisbane International Airport and charged with importing drugs

She was charged with importing a border-controlled substance and with possession of a commercial quantity of an unlawfully imported drug yesterday afternoon.

But it’s understood the woman claims the suitcase where the methamphetamine was found by customs officials doesn’t belong to her.

Ms Mills-Winkler was represented by the duty lawyer at Brisbane Magistrates Court, who made no application for bail.

The Taiwanese-born defendant appeared small and diminutive in the dock, wearing over-sized watch house browns.

She had been due to celebrate her 29th birthday on November 2 but will likely do so while on remand for the drug offences.

Ms Mills-Winkler listed “poker player” as her official occupation on documents filed in the court.

Magistrate Alan Taylor remanded Ms Mills-Winkler in custody to reappear on November 23.
