Comments Off on 3 charged with operating Newberry meth lab

NEWBERRY, SC — Three Newberry people have been arrested after officers found a methamphetamine lab inside a home in the city’s West End neighborhood.

Carol Hannah, 51, Earnest Hannah, 46 and Charles Wilson, 21 will all be charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and criminal conspiracy, Newberry police said. The trio were arrested after police, Newberry County sheriff’s deputies and State Law Enforcement Division agents found the functioning lab along with finished methamphetamine at the home while executing a search warrant at Carol and Earnest Hannah’s 517 Floyd Street home about 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

The house was searched as part of an ongoing investigation into methamphetamine at the house, Newberry Police Chief Jackie Swindler said.

“They had it workin’,” he said.

Officers evacuated a section of Floyd, Charles and Crosson streets for about 3 hours while a hazardous materials team cleared up the scene. EMS and fire crews also responded to the home. The area was deemed safe about noon Thursday, Swindler said.

Earnest Hannah has a prior methamphetamine conviction, police said.
