KUANTAN: UNDER the influence of methamphetamine, a settler slit his 11-month-old daughter’s throat in Felda Panching Selatan here.

In the 9.30pm incident on Friday, the 29-year-old man used a 15cm long knife to slit the toddler’s throat.

The man’s 48-year-old mother said she was sleeping in the living room when she was awakened by her daughter-in-law’s scream.

She said her granddaughter and daughter-in-law were in their bedroom at the time with two other children.

“She had stepped out to the kitchen for a drink.

“When she returned to the bedroom, she found her daughter on the bed with her throat cut.

“When asked why he did it, my son said it was better for her to be killed than be taken away,” the woman said at her house yesterday.

“Two or three days before the incident, his behaviour was strange as he seemed constantly nervous.

“He also carried a knife (the murder weapon) and kept sharpening it.

“When I asked him why he kept sharpening the knife, he said that there were people out there who wanted to run off with his wife and children.”

Kuantan police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Jasmani Yusoff confirmed the suspect’s arrest when contacted yesterday.
