Traffic stop leads to DUI, at-risk girl, motel search, drugs, child porn, arrest of 40-year-old.

A missing Contra Costa County girl was found during a routine traffic stop last week accompanied by a Livermore man, who authorities say admitted to having sex with the “at-risk” teen at a Hayward motel, giving her methamphetamine and attempting to pimp her out on Craigslist for drugs.

James Anthony Fuerstein, 40, of Livermore, is incarcerated with no bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of statutory rape, child porn, drug possession and driving under the influence, following his Nov. 13 arrest in Hayward, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said.

Fuerstein was pulled over at 4:24 a.m. at Foothill Boulevard and Cotter Way for a non-working vehicle light by Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputies, who spotted in the passenger seat a teenage girl, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, court documents state.

The 16-year-old victim, “Jane Doe” in court papers, was listed Nov. 12 with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office as an at-risk, missing person, according to documents.

The girl, who said she met Fuerstein “through a friend,” asked deputies to collect her belongings from the Hayward Budget Inn Motel on the 21000 block of Foothill Boulevard, where she and Fuerstein were allegedly holed up, smoking and injecting methamphetamine, watching pornographic movies and engaging in sexual relations, court records show.

A subsequent search of the motel room unearthed meth evidence, plus paraphernalia, sex toys and a computer with a nude photo of the minor as its screen saver, court documents allege.

In an audio and video statement to law enforcement with waived Miranda rights, Fuerstein reportedly admitted to sex, oral copulation and drug use with the girl knowing she was under age, according to records.

He also told deputies he posted a Craigslist ad with a naked picture of the teen to solicit sexual encounters in exchange for drugs, according to the documents.

During the initial traffic stop, deputies noted a fresh marijuana odor and found plastic bags with methamphetamine residue, meth and marijuana pipes, along with a hydrocodone pill in a compartment near the steering wheel, according to records.

Fuerstein said he was “a caregiver” and the narcotic belonged to a client, police said.

Fuerstein was scheduled to enter a plea Monday at the Hayward Hall of Justice to charges that included: sex and oral copulation with a minor; child cruelty; communicating with a minor to commit a crime; possession of narcotics and controlled substances; possession of obscene materials involving a child; and driving under the influence, according to documents.
