Comments Off on Davenport couple makes meth with 21-month-old present

A 21-month-old was present when the child’s parents were manufacturing methamphetamine in their Davenport home, police say.

Lauren Marie Smeltzer, 24, and Joshua Stalder, 28, both of 3831 Bridge Ave., Apt. 1, were arrested early Thursday. Each is charged with felony drug possession/delivery and child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.

They were both in custody Thursday at the Scott County Jail.

Police searched the couple’s home Wednesday and found “reactionary vessels containing sludge and lithium with more than 5 grams of detectable methamphetamine,” according to their arrest affidavits.

Officers also found empty pseudoephedrine blister packs, coffee filters, Coleman camp fuel, salt, ammonia nitrate (cold packs) acid, a Pyrex pan and a glass plate containing methamphetamine, the affidavits state.

The Iowa Department of Human Services is involved in the case and the decision to test the child for meth exposure is pending, Davenport Police Capt. Dale Sievert said, adding DHS handles the testing.

Sievert said the child has been turned over to a relative.
