The U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the seizure of 3.1 pounds of methamphetamine this week.

Border patrol agents working out of nearby Indio caught a man trying to smuggle in some 3.1 pounds of meth by strapping the drugs to his inner thighs, officials announced this week.

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents from the Indio station seized $99,000 of methamphetamine strapped to a man’s inner thighs at the Highway 86 checkpoint

The incident happened Monday night, around 8 p.m., at the Highway 86 checkpoint, according to a release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The man was riding in a travel bus, which was sent to a secondary inspection point.

“Upon further inspection agents questioned a 21-year-old male passenger, and discovered two vacuumed sealed packages strapped to his inner thighs,” the release stated.

When agents removed the drugs, they weighed in at around 3.1 pounds– which has an estimated value of $99,000, officials said.

“The man, a Lawfully Admitted Permanent Resident was arrested as the sole suspect in the case,” the release continued.

Both the man and the drugs were turned over to the DEA.
