Comments Off on Deputies find ‘ice,’ weapons at house in Effingham County

After a six-month probe into drug activity by a Bloomingdale man, Effingham County Sheriff’s investigators expected to find drugs when they arrived at his house early Thursday morning.
Members of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Unit found two methamphetamine labs, one of which was active, along with prescription pills, the drug “ice” (crystallized methamphetamine) and morphine inside Larry Lunsford’s home in the 100 block of Pecan Grove Boulevard.

“We went in there fully expecting to find drugs, but we found more than we thought we would,” said ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.
Along with the drugs, investigators found 13 guns of different types and several stolen tools at the house. Deputies also seized a truck and two all-terrain vehicles they believe Lunsford bought with money he made from selling drugs, Ehsanipoor said.
Lunsford, 42, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, along with several other drug charges.
“This is definitely a significant bust,” Ehsanipoor said. “It’s a large amount of several different types of drugs and it’s more than a dozen weapons — and those don’t mix well.”
Sheriff’s investigators believe Lunsford has been supplying several types of drugs to people in both Effingham and Chatham Counties as well in other areas in the region, according to Ehsanipoor.
Lunsford is being held in the Effingham County Jail.
Ehsanipoor described the investigation as “broad-based,” initially focusing on Lunsford and then leading to additional suspects. More arrests are expected, Ehsanipoor said.
“He was the main supplier,” Ehsanipoor said of Lunsford. “Now our main goal is to find out where he got his stuff from.”
