NORTH VERNON – A late morning traffic stop in Jennings County led to the arrest of a Jefferson County woman on drug charges.

Stacy Chapman, 27, of Madison, was arrested Friday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Class D felony. She was also cited for having a false and fictitious vehicle registration.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Friday, North Vernon Police Department Patrolman Todd Beam spotted a vehicle on South State Street bearing a license plate that belonged to another vehicle, according to North Vernon Police spokesman Justin Black.

After Beam pulled over the vehicle a few blocks south of Walnut Street and spoke with Chapman, he called for assistance from K-9 officer Sgt. Andrew Richmond and his dog, Heros, Black said.

During a walk-around, the dog alerted both Beam and Richmond to the presence of narcotics inside, Black said. A subsequent search revealed a small amount of methamphetamine in the area where Chapman was sitting in the driver’s seat.
