Comments Off on CBP Officers at Calexico Downtown Port Find 46 Pounds of Methamphetamine in Gas Tank

Calexico, California – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Calexico downtown port of entry yesterday discovered 46 pounds of methamphetamine concealed in the gas tank of a vehicle.

On Tuesday afternoon, April 16, at about 1:30 p.m., a CBP officer conducting inspections of vehicles and travelers referred a maroon 2006 Ford Explorer for further examination.

CBP officers conducted an intensive examination that included a canine screening that resulted in the discovery of 26 wrapped packages of methamphetamine concealed inside the tank. The street value of the narcotic is estimated at approximately $690,000.

The driver, a 30-year-old male Mexican citizen and resident of Ensenada, Baja California, was arrested and transported to the Imperial County jail to await arraignment in federal court for the alleged smuggling attempt.

CBP seized the vehicle and narcotics.
