CALEXICO – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested an El Centro resident Sunday after discovering about $120,000 worth of methamphetamine in his car, according to a press release.

Around 12:10 p.m., a detector dog alerted to a blue 1993 Toyota Paseo as the driver waited in line for inspection at the Calexico downtown Port of Entry. The driver and car was escorted for further examination.

CBP officers then found five wrapped packages of methamphetamine weighing a combined total of eight pounds in a false compartment of the car’s battery.

The driver, a 24-year-old man living in El Centro, was turned over to custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and transported to Imperial County Jail. CBP seized the car and drugs. The man’s name was not released.
