Marin County drug investigators arrested a suspected methamphetamine dealer in San Rafael and seized guns and drugs from his hotel room in Richmond.

Robert Stephen Bovero, 53, was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of drug possession for sale, being a felon in possession of a firearm and other counts. He was released on bail.

Bovero was arrested after an investigation by the Marin County Major Crimes Task Force, which developed information that he was allegedly selling meth in the county, said sheriff’s Sgt. Pierre Ahuncain.

The task force learned that Bovero was staying at a Richmond hotel, placed him under surveillance and obtained search warrants for him, his room and his car. On Tuesday night, investigators contacted him after following him from Richmond to the Home Depot parking lot in San Rafael.

Investigators found a digital scale in the car and then seized more than an ounce of methamphetamine from the hotel room.

Also in the room were a loaded revolver, another handgun and numerous syringes, including two filled with suspected heroin, Ahuncain said.

Bovero checked out of the hotel Wednesday and could not be reached for comment.

Bovero, whose previous residences include Corte Madera, has a lengthy criminal history in Marin, according to court records.
