Sparta police busted a suspected meth lab early Saturday morning.

Police received a report of a strong chemical smell at 514 Hill St. Responding officers encountered the fumes at 6:22 a.m. and evacuated the house.

They were met by the homeowner, who told officers that his son was staying with him. The son was not home at the time.

Hazardous materials used to manufacture methamphetamine were removed from the house. The La Crosse Regional Hazardous Materials Response Unit and Department of Criminal Investigations Meth Lab Team were also at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
