Two women who ran from Walmart after allegedly shoplifting were also caught with methamphetamine.

Crystal L. Legate, 38, and Shannon M. Wise, 31, both of Norfolk were arrested after police were called to Walmart at 1:31 p.m. Saturday regarding two shoplifters who were fleeing the store.

Walmart loss prevention personnel told police officers that they watched as Legate and Wise cooperated with each other in their efforts to steal about $285 worth of merchandise from the store, said Capt. Michael Bauer of the Norfolk Police Division.

The two women allegedly placed stolen items in their purses and also in a shopping cart. They went to a self-checkout line and paid for some of the items in the shopping cart but didn’t pay for all of the items, Bauer said.

Officers located the two women hiding behind a fence near the Menard’s store.

After having contact with the women, officers located a methamphetamine pipe in Wise’s purse. Legate also allegedly had a meth pipe which she attempted to discard on the ground, Bauer said.

Both pipes field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Both women were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and possession of meth. They were booked into the Norfolk jail and later transferred to the Madison County jail.
