Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two smugglers and seized 34 pounds of methamphetamine following a traffic stop and pursuit on Thursday.
According to agent Douglas Choi of the Yuma Sector Border Patrol Public Affairs Office, Blythe Station agents were patrolling along Interstate 10 when they initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the Mesa Verde exit.
Choi said during the stop, agents ran a records check on the driver, which revealed he was suspected of being a narcotics body-carrier.
It was when the agents attempted to search the vehicle’s truck that Choi said the driver sped off. He said agents pursued the vehicle for approximately 30 miles before the driver eventually stopped again near the Corn Spring exit in Desert Center, Cailf.
When agents finally got to search the vehicle they found a duffle bag containing 28 bricks of methamphetamine weighing a combined 34 pounds worth an estimated $102,000.
Agents turned the vehicle, narcotics and two smugglers over to the Blythe Narcotics Enforcement Task Force.
