AMARILLO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Thursday on Interstate 40, yielding over 10 pounds of methamphetamine valued at over $927,000.02-21%20TEXAS%20DPS

At approximately 6:51 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2015 Nissan Altima passenger car traveling eastbound on IH-40, for a traffic violation, near Amarillo in Potter County.

The occupants of the Altima were identified as Juan Carlos Duarte-Cordova, 45, and Ruth Griego, 41, both of Phoenix. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 10 bundles of methamphetamine in a box of cat litter.

Duarte-Cordova and Griego were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams, a first-degree felony, and booked into the Potter County Jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Phoenix, to Oklahoma City.
