LANSING – A 35-year-old Lansing man is in serious condition with upper body burns apparently related to cooking methamphetamine, police said.

Police were called to a home in the 5800 block of Joshua Street at around 12:15 p.m. today on a report of a possible explosion and person on fire, Lansing police Public Information Officer Robert Merritt said.

Police found a fire in the back porch area, Merritt said. Lansing firefighters put out the fire and took the man to a local hospital. No one else was hurt.

Merritt said the man ran from the home holding an item that burst. He would not say what the item was, but that police found items at the scene consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Merritt said the man will likely face charges.

Michigan State Police are investigating.
