Wallace McMaster, 59, and his wife, Sherri, 56, were pulled over for a traffic violation by a county deputy while traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 shortly before 8 a.m. on May 14, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies talked to the McMasters and noted their nervousness and multiple signs of deception when they asked the couple about where they were going, the Sheriff’s Office said.

During a consented search, a K-9 deputy noticed a couple of containers in the bed of the McMaster’s red Chevrolet pickup truck and had his canine partner sniff the exterior of the truck bed, which caused the dog to alert investigators to the tailgate area and door seams, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities said a cooler in the bed of the truck that had its liner removed was discovered to possess a hollowed-out compartment that contained over half a pound of methamphetamine.635677450054798162-McMaster-2c-Wallace-Dale

In addition to the meth, officers discovered a joint in the cab of the truck, authorities said.

The McMasters were arrested on suspicion of possession and transportation with means to sell a dangerous drug.

The Sheriff’s Office said Wallace has admitted to their involvement in transporting meth with the intent to sell it in Arkansas.

The couple remained in-custody Wednesday at the Camp Verde Detention Center and are each being held there on $80,000.
