AMARILLO — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Wednesday on Interstate 40, yielding more than 18 pounds of methamphetamine valued at more than $1.5 million.

At approximately 9:07 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban traveling eastbound on I-40, for a traffic violation, near Conway in Carson County.52e6d0e2771e4_image

The driver of the Suburban was identified as Miguel A. Abreu, 35, of Lawrenceville, Ga. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 16 bundles of methamphetamine in the rear quarter panel.

Abreu was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams, a first-degree felony, and booked into the Carson County Jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Pamona, Calif., to Atlanta.
