A Central woman admitted to taking crystal meth Saturday about two hours before she crashed into a tree off the side of a road, injuring the two children in her pickup truck, according to the Louisiana State Police arrest report.

Rhonda Buche, 55, drove her GMC Sierra off the side of Greenwell Springs Road just north of Jim Price Road in Greenwell Springs around 2 p.m. Saturday, running through a ditch until the hitting a large tree, the arrest report says. 

The two children in the vehicle, ages 8 and 7, were not wearing seat belts and were injured in the crash. The 8-year-old boy sustained internal injuries to his abdomen and was scheduled for surgery Saturday. No details were given about the 7-year-old child’s condition.

Buche and the two children were transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

While troopers searched Buche’s vehicle for a driver’s license, they found a three plastic bags containing what looked like crystal meth, a cylinder bottle with a similar substance, and a digital scale with white powder on the surface, the report says. The evidence will be submitted to the state police crime lab for analysis.

Police interviewed Buche in the hospital and found signs of drug impairment, the report says. She admitted to a trooper that she ingested crystal meth around noon Saturday, about two hours before the crash, the report says. Buche submitted blood samples for the investigation.

Buche, 7035 Burtcliff Drive, was arrested and booked on first-offense DWI with child endangerment, careless operation, two counts of vehicular negligent injuring, unrestrained child, possession of schedule two drugs and two counts of cruelty to juveniles.
