An Adrian man formally was arraigned Monday on charges connected to an explosion Feb. 25 at an Adrian motel.

Gregory Allen Bowers, 37, was arraigned in Lenawee County District Court on charges of maintaining or operating a methamphetamine lab, maintaining or operating a lab that creates hazardous materials, and possession of methamphetamine. Bond was continued at $75,000 and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 24.

According to a police statement in the court file, Bowers was in a room at the Travelodge, 1575 W. Maumee St., when a meth cooking operation failed, causing an explosion that blew out the window and part of the wall at the front of the room and part of the back wall near the bathroom sink.

Bowers suffered burns on his body and was treated first at ProMedica Bixby Hospital then at the University of Michigan hospital’s burn unit in Ann Arbor, the statement said.

Items related to making meth were found in the room, police said.
